Navy Day 2015 - composite boat cakes

For Navy Day we raced in a Fairmount/Vesper composite women's 2x so I made each club a cake with the victory mug on it.  The Vesper cake was vanilla and FRA was chocolate, both had vanilla icing.  The mugs were freehanded using piping tools and a toothpick as a paintbrush.

Our awesome composite boat!!

Vesper cake with a champion mug!

Sports Bra Injury

Over the summer I got a stress fracture on my rib.  The first doctor I visited did not look at the injury and diagnosed it as a "pinched nerve from a sports bra".  After another week and 2 1k races in a day, I went to see a sports medicine doctor who diagnosed me with a stress fracture on my rib.  I still like to joke that the injury was due to a sports bra ;-)

Sports bra was free-handed with icing.  Most people thought it was a pink pretzel!

Boathouse Wedding Cake

I made a wedding cake for my friends who were getting married at Fairmount Boathouse.

The bottom layer was vanilla lemon pound cake with a white chocolate grapefruit ganache filling and the middle and top layers were chocolate pound cake with chocolate raspberry ganache. There was a white chocolate ganache exterior on all of the layers.

Baby on Board

For the Schuylkill Navy Regatta, the bow of our women's 4x was 32 weeks pregnant.  To honor this, i made a vanilla cake with chocolate sour cream frosting documenting our "5 person quad".

Decorating process:

I sketched out the silhouettes with a toothpick and then filled in the frosting with a toothpick like a paintbrush.

For our newest fan I knit this FRA letterman jacket:

Flipped boat

One morning in May I flipped my single while on the race course so I ended up in the Schuylkill.  To commemorate the moment, I made this cake.  Note the duckling sprinkles swimming in the water.  I have not flipped since this!

Oar painting cake

To encourage participation the FRA oar painting afternoon, I made a cake for the volunteers:

Gingerbread boathouse row

For the holiday season I created all of the houses on boathouse row out of gram crackers, candy and nuts. It was featured on row2k!  http://www.row2k.com/potd/12-20-2014/Gingerbread-Boathouse-Row/2706/#.Vi2YyLTtJUQ

Construction of FRA (#2 Kelly Drive):

FRA Yule Log

For the Fairmount Rowing Association annual holiday party I made a Yule log.  It is chocolate roll cake with a whipped cream-cream cheese filling and a mocha frosting.   The mushrooms are made of meringues and the holy is decorative.

HOSR 2014

I created the HOSR logo based off of the Thomas Eakins "Pair-Oared Shell" painting on a 18x26" chocolate cake.  I added both the Fairmount Rowing Association and Wharton Crew logos on the cake.

Beef and Brew 2014

Cake for the Wharton Crew Team annual Beef and Brew party themed "Classic Hollywood" with red and gold decorations.

Navy Day 2014

For the Navy Day regatta, I made the ram logo from the victory mug onto a large chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.

Pain in the neck

To celebrate Tom T's recovery from his neck injury, I made him a cupcake that says "No more pain in the neck Tom".  He had previously told me that he likes every cake except coconut -- so I played a prank on him and shaved white chocolate on the top but told him it was coconut!
